Fortune cookies are as American as apple pie and pepperoni pizza. It speaks to the melting pot that is the United States. One little shop, tucked away in the heart of Chinatown in San Francisco, has been making the little prophetic delights since 1962. Nowadays, fortune cookies are machine made, but at the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory the cookies are made by hand using the same process that was used when the shop first opened.
Tourists visiting San Francisco can take a tour to the factory and purchase traditional fortune cookies for $3 per bag and take photos with the cookie makers themselves for 50 cents.
Still using the same method of making fortune cookies since 1962.
The cookies have to be folded before they cool and harden.
