Chrissy Teigen has gone from fashion model to role model. Teigen posted a photo on Instagram showing bruises on her legs caused by her kitchen door handles. She ended her caption with, “stretchies say hi.”
Teigen had no idea her Instagram photo showing her stretch marks would inspire women to upload photos of themselves and their striae. Teigen has also been applauded for pulling the curtain on models having perfect bodies with flawless skin.
Stretch marks are caused by pulling of the skin from pregnancy, rapid weight gain or loss, and even hormonal changes.
Often times, men and women feel embarrassed by the physical appearance of the scars prompting them to cover up what they consider to be ‘problem areas.’ Women are proudly renaming their stretch marks, ‘tiger stripes.’ A step in the right direction towards self acceptance and positive body image.
Bruises from bumping kitchen drawer handles for a week. Stretchies say hi!

@loveyourlines is my favorite. This page shows our true beauty. It shows women, we should always love ourselves. Scars, stretch marks, pimples, everything. Everything everyone should be proud of because that's what make us beautiful. 💖 #loveyourlines #selflove

I have ALWAYS been so ashamed of my stomach and my stretch marks (and would never post pictures like this) but I have been so inspired by the women brave enough to flaunt, love, and own theirs. Mine are about my journey and I am still on that journey today. I'm learning to be less self-conscious and to be more proud of what I've accomplished #loveyourlines #workyourlines ❤💪✊

The amazing A’Driane Nieves with her youngest son, Austin (6 months). She is also mother to Brennan (7) and Alex (4). A’Driane was previously in the Air Force, went back to school for counseling and Social Work and is now a proud stay at home mom. She was a single mom when Brennan was born and had just gotten out of the service. She struggled for a couple of years before getting on her feet. She has had healthy pregnancies and relatively uneventful deliveries. With Alex she had a lot of antenatal depression, anxiety and what she thought was nesting but was later determined to be OCD. She continued to struggle greatly with her moods postpartum. When Alex was about a year old she was up one night searching for answers and after googling postpartum depression she came across Postpartum Progress, read through the whole site and found it hugely helpful. Her contact with the site led her to get herself into treatment for PPD and realize she wasn’t alone. After about 6 months of her moods still cycling and feeling like treatment wasn’t really helping she went to the VA hospital for further help. She found someone who spent enough time to get to know her whole history she was diagnosed with Bipolar 2. A’Driane says that she felt relieve when she was diagnosed at finally finding answers and within an hour of adding a mood stabilizer to her antidepressant medication she felt her mind calm. She had a journey finding the proper combination of medication to keep her healthy. Her pregnancy with Austin was a bit of a surprise but she immediately contacted her doctors and found meds safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding. While she has still struggled with her mental health this round postpartum she feels she has control of it this time and is more aware of what she is going through. #4thtrimesterbodiesproject #fourthtrimesterbodiesproject #4thtrimester #fourthtrimester #postpartum #breastfeeding #childbirth #bodypositivity #stopcensoringmotherhood #motherhood #bodypositive #everybodyisbeautiful #4thtriaustin

One of my favorite accounts on IG is @loveyourlines – portraits of women and their stretch marks and the stories behind them. The images of women that media bombards us with everyday are photoshopped and unrealistic, so I really treasure these beautiful and candid photos. Especially since I think pretty much all women have them! I've got a bunch on my hips & thighs from my weight changing over the years. Give them a follow if you like to keep it 💯! ❤️❤️❤️ #loveyourlines

#loveyourlines #loveyourbody My stretch marks remind me what my body is capable of and that should be celebrated. I am a mother and proud of the marks that show it.

I saw this #LoveYourLines movement and decided I will be brave enough to bare it all. I struggle everyday when I look in the mirror and see my stretch marks but whenever I look into my baby girls eyes and she smiles at me I know I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. She's my everything, and for that reason I'll gladly wear my tiger stripes. #LoveYourLines #NOFilter #NotPerfect #WorthEverySingleMark #BriellaMay #9Weeks #ShowYourStripes
