Starting a new family is always an exciting challenge, and when a woman is pregnant, there are plenty of things that can go wrong. Of course, usually baby and mom stay happy and healthy with a little effort on mom's part — that, combined with a great team of doctors often ensures a safe, drama-free delivery and exciting new addition to the world.
But in the case of this mom, things were a little bit different. She and her husband got pregnant in an unconventional way, and instead of being blessed with one baby, they ended up faced with the prospect of five. Quintuplets are pretty rare, and what it takes to deliver them safely into the world is tenuous at best. Luckily, this is one story that starts off kind of scary, but has nothing but a happy ending. All pregnant women are at risk for certain complications.
But when you’re pregnant with quintuplets, that risk increases by five.
Guillermina is one brave mama.
When she and her husband first got pregnant, they were excited. Then, they learned that she was actually pregnant with five babies. This was great news, but meant that Guillermina’s body was going to go through some severe changes, including bruising on her belly.
Despite the challenges, what was going on inside her womb was truly amazing.
There were five little babies in there, each of them growing and thriving in their mom’s increasingly large belly.
Of course, when you've got five babies in the mix, things move a lot more quickly.
At 31 and a half weeks, Guillermina was ready to deliver. That’s earlier than most moms — but most moms don’t have to bring five babies into the world.
Luckily, she had lots of help.
When you’ve got a situation like this, you need an experienced medical team to help things go smoothly.
